What we like
- Excellent video quality
- Vast range of video options
- Extensive video support tools
- Excellent image stabilization
- Fan provides dependability
- DR Boost + V-Log delivers impressive files, especially in challenging light
- Motion correction makes hand-held high-res mode much more useful
- Quick access to audio settings
- 4-channel audio option
- Very few frame rate/resolution/codec restrictions
What we don’t
- Still image DR is disappointing below ISO 800
- Battery life noticeably shorter than predecessor
- Magnified live view never very detailed (stills or video)
- Awkward to have to disengage and reengaging DR Boost to use high speed modes
- Low ISO footage without DR Boost mode is a touch behind that from the GH5
Conclusion from DPReview:
The GH6 is a flexible and dependable video camera that offers all its modes in a wide selection of codecs and bit-rates. The sensor that delivers excellent video falls behind its best stills rivals, making it a less successful hybrid camera than its predecessors, and AF still presents challenges in video. Overall a dependable video production tool that’s a pleasure to work with.
